Modern Movement Quilt Size 80” x 77” Designed By Rachelle Denneny This quilt is a play with colour, movement, simple piecing and negative space. A modern take on a Bargello quilt, to create waves and movement. Lots of fun to make using simple strip piecing. About this Quilt I designed and made this quilt in 2016 as an entry for a Modern Quilt Category in the Quilt NSW annual exhibition. This was a new category for the Guild so I decided I would have a go at a “Modern Quilt”. My work tends to be more on the traditional side, although I like to work with modern fabrics and techniques. I also LOVE Free Motion quilting so I always do detailed quilting on my “Show” Quilts. I quilt on a Domestic Brother Machine. This quilt was lots of fun and so enjoyable to make and quilt but I had very little expectation that it would be an award winner. Well what a surprise, it won 1st Place Modern in Sydney and went on to win 1st Place Modern and Best of State in my home State of South Australia. Winning this award puts it in the running for the Bernina Best of Australia Awards when the best of each State from that year compete for this award which is held at the Australian Quilt Convention, Melbourne, Australia. Well to my absolute surprise and delight it won this Award in April 2017. I have been asked many times for the Pattern so here it is.
