Aurifloss

Have you tried Aurifloss yet? One of Aurifil's recent newsletters contained some fantastic tips for working with their floss. You'll find an abreviated version here and the full details can be found on our Thread Education page on our website.

Tips for working with Aurifloss

  • Aurifil's 6-strand, divisible Cotton floss is wound on a gorgeous wooden spool, perfect for easy travel and prevention of pesky tangles!
  • You'll find Aurifloss excellent for cross stitch, embroidery, tatting, needle point and decorative accents on quilts, bags and garments.
  • When using multiple strands, begin by separating your strands.
  • Stitch with the nap of the floss by knotting the last end cut and threading the needle with the opposite end.
  • When stitching on Aida cloth a Crewel/Embroidery needle works well. Workingwith fabric? Try a Milliner or Straw needle.
  • Thread the needle with a short length of thread.

All About Needles

Do you have trouble deciding which machine needle you should use for your projects? Successful sewing is often about paying attention to the little things, like the needle in your sewing machine.
Click here to watch a recent Live with Annie episode and guest Rhonda Pierce of Schmetz shows how this little piece of steel can solve some very big problems, including broken threads, skipped stitches and puckered fabrics.
While this video demonstration focuses on Schmetz brand needles, it is applicable to all brands. You can find the machine needles we stock here on our website.
That’s it for now – thanks for reading to the end!
Until next time
