A Day in Happyland – Block of the Month
Finished quilt size is 55" x 56" (140cm x 142cm)
This quilt consists mainly of simple woven wool applique and stitchery – creating a quilt that is both a little bit quirky and a whole lot of whimsical. This quilt uses linen, Japanese taupes and hand-dyed woven wools.
Each month there are at least 6 applique images to create, each being stitched on a natural linen background. These are then stitched down onto a background fabric, giving the illusion of the blocks floating around together.
The techniques are very simple, using fusible web applique and a whip-stitch for the wool applique, and mainly backstitch for the stitchery component.
This program runs over 12 months – cost for month 1 is $198.50, and cost for months 2 to 12 is $44.00 per month. Inclusions are listed below.
We have put together a comprehensive pack for month 1 for you to make it as easy as possible for you to get started!

- Part 1 of the pattern
- Wool pack for part 1
- Linen for part 1
- Background fabric for part 1
- Pack of all required Aurifil Lana wools for the whip-stitching – 9 threads
- Pack of all required Valdani threads for the embroidery – 8 threads
- Seven assorted prints for the Applique Patches including Japanese woven taupes
- 1.1mt of Heat and Bond light
Included in each of months 2 to 12:
- Relevant section of the pattern
- Wool pack
- Linen as required
- Background fabric as required
Not included:
- Backing fabric, batting
- Any other general sewing supplies required
